Today I went to the ATM to get some money. I was trying to figure out why I couldn’t slide my ATM card into the slot. It turned out that there was another card in there. The screen was asking what I wanted to do next. I looked around to see if there was someone running back for their card. Anyway, I ejected the card and went inside the bank. The customer service rep. told me that the owner of that card was lucky because I could have cleaned out his account (or at least could have taken the most he’s allowed to withdraw today).
I went about my business, mainly to trek all the way to San Jose to pick up my son’s cake. Yes, we do not have any decent bakery in Tracy so if you are not willing to eat Costco cake then you should head out elsewhere. I ended up at Andersen’s Bakery in Milpitas. I called the one in Pleasanton but you had to pre-order the cakes so I crossed that out of my list. After I paid I was in a rush to get back in my car and head on home before I hit traffic. I totally neglected my wallet on the counter and only realized it when a man tapped me on my shoulder and handed it to me. All my money was there and nothing was missing. Then I thought back when I handed the ATM card this morning and realized that it pays off to do a good thing – well not exactly to do a good thing but to do what is right.
On the way home, I saw a homeless man begging for food or money. I am very against giving money and the only food I had in my car was the cake. So I tried not to make eye contact because I almost felt embarrassed that I couldn’t give him anything. It was raining slightly but with the weather forecast this week – I was almost tempted to hand him some money. I wonder if they would really work for food or are they really just waiting for a handout. I wonder if someone offered them a decent job like cleaning up someones backyard or helping out with some project at home – would they really work hard? Or do they really just stand there to get some money from unsuspecting people because they are too lazy to work.
It really boggles my mind why anyone would want to stand or sleep in the rain. Who wants to live in this kind of condition? No bed, no showers. Could you honestly tell me that with all the privileges and benefits living in United States – there are no other options for the homeless?
