I’ve been laying here for the last two days wondering when I’m going to feel better. The doctor just called and told me that the mono test came back negative. So it’s just good ole strep after all! Whoop! Good times!
I still feel like crap and occasionally I have a fever of over 100 degrees. My entire body is aching, and it feels like I’ve swallowed a cupful of mucus (if you’re easily disgusted – move on) that seems to be stuck in my throat. Once in a while you will hear me gagging and my kids are freaking out! My 10-year old actually woke up his 13-year old sister because I was choking earlier in the day and tears were streaming down my face.
So my doc gave me 3 days off from work. Today is the second day and I don’t feel any better. I think I am going back there tomorrow to get a few more days. Does strep really just lasts for 3-days?

Strep will usually respond to antibiotics prior to the second dose, and you will no longer be contagious after 24 hours from starting your first dose.
You may have something else going on in addition to strep, as strep does not cause excess mucous in the throat.
If it worsens (“hot potato voice”), you should call your doc back; some people can develop abcesses in the throat, which need to be drained.

Thanks Jeff! I came to see my doctor yesterday and I was told that I had a bad case of Bronchitis as well! It just keeps getting better for me …
